The Park was formerly the Luodong Branch office of the Forestry Administration and the old log pond during the Japanese occupation period. In 1982, the lumber business came to an end. This park has more or less maintained its original look since then. In 2004, the Forestry Administration Office created plans to turn this site into a Lumber Industry Memorial Park as a reminder of Taiping Mountain's golden era of logging and the historical development of Luodong. The Taiwan Lumber Industry Memorial Park occupies a ground area of approximately 20 hectares. It features an ecological pond (the log pond), aquatic plants pond, aquatic plants display area, a steam train engine display area, a railway area, and a wooden path by the water. It serves tourism, educational, cultural, and conservational purposes. It is especially quiet and beautiful in the late afternoon.
The little island in the middle of the log pond is a natural ecological showroom. More than 20 different bird species can be seen here. On the south of Songluo Hall are six well-maintained old steam engines on display. While visiting here, visitors will certainly recall memories of the glorious history of the lumber industry.
Kavalan Whisky
Kavalan Whisky by Jinche Distillery was officially introduced in December, 2008. Water is a key to whisky quality. Situated close to the mountains and the sea, 75% of Yilan is hilly. Yilan, seen as a big natural reservoir, provides ample clean water and becomes a perfect place for distilling quality whisky. With such purity of water from the high mountains, it is inevitable that the Jinche Distillery is able to create very fine Kavalan Whisky, which is smooth to the palate and is clean tasting with a lingering finish.
Research teams from Jinche went to Scotland and Japan to learn about the manufacturing processes. They have also toured around the world to look for the stills used by the famous distilleries in an effort to make the first authentic whisky in Taiwan.
Plum Blossom Lake
The original name of this scenic spot was Ta-Pi, meaning “big pond”. In the 1970’s, its name was changed to Plum Blossom Lake due to its shape. If you row a boat on the lake, you will surely feel very delighted. In spring when the flowers bloom, many butterflies and bees can be seen flying around the lake. The view in spring is beautiful beyond description.

Taiping Mountain Forest Recreation Area
Taiping Mountain is located in Datong Township, Yilan County, covering 12,631 hectares of land at 2000 meters above sea level, formerly known as “Rest Brain”, which means greenish, rich in trees, and thriving. From the top of Taiping Mountain, there is an unparalleled vista of forest and mountain scenery. As visitors ascend, they first pass through an area of camphor and maple trees at the 200 to 500 meter level. From 500 to 1,800 meters is the temperate zone, with coniferous and broad-leafed trees such as fir, juniper and maple, while the area above 1,800 meters is known for its lush growth of coniferous trees, including cypress and juniper, whose wood is commercially valuable. There are four national trails running through the forest, namely Hemlock, Maoxing, Cuifeng Lake, and Beech.
Another big draw at Taiping Mountain is Taiping Mountain Forest Railway. Originally constructed in 1924 for the logging industry, this 2.5-kilometer narrow gauge rail line runs through the forest from Taiping Mountain Visitor Center to Maoxing. Renovated in 1991, the cliff-side route features Bong Bong Trains, taking visitors to Maoxing Fern Garden.
Cuifeng Lake
The largest alpine lake in Taiwan, Cuifeng Lake is located at an altitude of 1,840 meters between Mt. Taiping and Mt. Dayu and has a surface area of 25 hectares and a depth of 7 meters. Renze Hot Springs
Another popular spot for visitors to Taiping Mountain are the hot springs at Renze. Situated 500 meters above sea level, Renze Hot Springs are a stopover on the road to Taiping Mountain Forest Recreation Area. The colorless, odorless mineral water here contains calcium carbonate and is very hot--frequently above 95 degrees Celsius. Bathing in the springs leaves the skin lustrous and smooth. Visitors here can also enjoy walking on nearby forest paths and watching the birds.
Fuente termal Tsio Zu Tser (antigua fuente termal Tsen Tser)
